Happy Pioneer Day!

Take time to remember the Mormon Pioneers and the sacrifices they made. Without them, we wouldn't be where we are today!

Utah celebrates Pioneer Day, statewide, on Tuesday, July 24th.  Brigham Young arrived at Big Mountain, looked down upon the Salt Lake Valley, and stated, "This Is The Place!"

Today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the largest churches in the world, and one of the fastest growing!

My favorite movie about the Mormon pioneers, "17 Miracles".

Description
As part of the Willie Handcart Company, Levi Savage (Jason Wade) feared that leaving late in the season would lead to despair and death. What he came to find out is that for every tragedy, there is a multitude of miracles.

Based on unbelievable actual events, and brought to you by filmmaker T.C. Christensen (Praise to the Man, The Work and the Glory), 17 Miracles will open your eyes to the stories of the Mormon Pioneers as you have never seen them before. Something extraordinary is about to happen.

As the two pioneer women see their rescuers appearing on the distant horizon, they gave thanks....

Mitt Romney's Pioneer Heritage Offers Spiritual and Financial Support

Mormons’ first families rally behind Romney

In the News:

SALT LAKE CITY — In the mid-1800s, newly converted families from across the United States and Europe gathered in the growing Mormon town of Nauvoo, Ill., to help their prophet, Joseph Smith, build a New Jerusalem.

Soon driven out by anti-Mormon neighbors who killed Mr. Smith and his brother Hyrum, they trekked westward by foot and on horseback, chased by Indians, cholera and even United States troops before settling together safely in Utah.

Now, more than 150 years later, descendants of those first families of Mormonism are joining together in a new effort: delivering the White House to Mitt Romney, whose great-great-grandfather Miles Romney settled alongside many of their ancestors in Nauvoo in 1841 and joined their torturous migration.

Woman's Place in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

From today's "Deseret News", an interesting article by writer Kristine Frederickson.

"How women are perceived is critical to how they are treated. Misinterpretations of the story of Adam and Eve are antithetical to Jesus Christ's teachings and his restored gospel, which elevates the status of women to an equal place beside men."

A Mormon's Return to Faith, "Coming Home"

From LDS Living Magazine:

"Susan Swann tells about her painful separation from the LDS church and her uplifting journey back to faith. Sounds like a cool story.
A former Relief Society president and bishop’s daughter from pioneer stock, Susan N. Swann never imagined she’d leave the Mormon Church. But then she found herself divorced, penniless — and losing her faith.

In Coming Home: A Mormon’s Return to Faith, author Swann details her painful struggle leaving the Mormon faith for 15 years and her uplifting journey back home. Swann’s first book, she shares the intimate details and personal relationships that helped her reconnect with her roots and find her religion once again.

“My purpose in sharing my story is a simple attempt to reach out to those who may also be struggling, or to those with family members who may be struggling,” says Swann. “It’s meant ultimately to be a message of hope, gratitude, and love. It’s filled with people who held on to me as I struggled for years to get my bearings. This was neither a quick nor painless process for those who loved me. I’d like to think it was worth it in the end.”

“Coming Home” is a message of hope and love. Swann hopes her spiritual self discovery will be an optimistic message to others. She focuses on the positive — in the time she was away, more than 4 million members joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon faith becoming a major world religion. Swann is proud to be a part of that.

You can learn more about Swann’s book through her website, returntofaith.org. It is available for order on amazon.com in the US, the UK, and Europe and is available at LDS bookstores. If you don’t find a copy at your favorite store, ask them to order one for you."
